Japan Update: May 2012

Hello again to my friends and family! It's starting to get hot over here. Summer is coming... dun dun duuuuun. Anyway, here is what happened this month.

DTS
The DTS is going along smoothly and strongly! This month we have had teaching on the Father Heart of God, the Holy Spirit, Spiritual Warfare and the Lordship of Christ. The students are learning a lot, and so am I! Also, we have been going to Tokyo University a couple of times a week and have been prayer walking and also doing research on the history of the university and finding out any Christian groups that are there so we can pray for them and maybe even partner in some way. We have found out about a few, but we haven't made relationship yet. Next month will be the start of outreach phase so we are preparing for that now. I will be helping lead a local Tokyo outreach like I did last year, so that will be fun!

Accommodation
Here I am again, writing another update without a place to call home, living out of a suitcase. We have come to the conclusion that there isn't much point in continuing our search for another place. The DTS students will be leaving at the end of August, so the staff with no current home will move into their houses. So until then, we will continue to live in temporary places. I will stay in this house until tomorrow then I'll move again into someone else's house, before moving again at the end of August! Thank you so much for all of the support and prayers!

Cornerstone
Cornerstone has been growing lots more and we are almost too big for the room we rent! More Japanese people are coming now and getting involved, and also a lot more people from YWAM have made it their church too and they are also getting stuck in! Naoko and I have started a welcome team at the church which involves helping people to feel comfortable and welcome as they enter the building. We are going to get more people involved in this team too. Last weekend we had our first baptism event! It was a lovely sunny day and I got a bit sunburnt! But it was so much fun! Most of the church came along to it (was at lunchtime on Saturday, instead of the normal service time) which was great! I gave a talk on what baptism is in the bible, then 3 people were baptised in a small stream. Then we all ate lunch together. Lots of fun and I could feel the joy of God too!

PRAYER POINTS

  • Thank God for all that he is doing with the DTS students and for all the teachers this month
  • Thank God for what he is doing at Tokyo University
  • That God will help build relationship between us and students at the university
  • Thank God for the people willing to house us until the end of DTS
  • Thank God for the baptisms at Cornerstone and for the growth of the church
  • That God will speak to Naoko and I about the future!
  • Thank God for all of the prayer and financial support that lets me be here!

Thank you as always for taking time to read this update! Sorry it's a little bit short this month! Most of the time is filled with DTS right now. Almost outreach phase! Please feel free to ask any questions via email, Google+ or Facebook, or just say hi! Take care and I will be in touch again soon!
